Women We Love: Kerry Washington


Kerry Washington is taking the world by storm. In 2014 she was deemed one of the most influential people in the world, and we can see why. She has worked with dozens of charitable causes from early on in her career and continues to do so to this day. Most of them have to do with women, domestic violence, and the arts! These are all things dear to our hearts and she is doing so much good in this world. Go Kerry!  Some of her work includes being a member of the President’s Committee of the Arts and Humanities, a board member for V-day–a charity against violence for women, a board member of the Creative Coalition for the arts, and on the Artists Committee for Americans for the Arts. She goes beyond education, youth, and violence, and has used her unique and fabulous style to raise money and awareness for not only domestic violence, but the frequent financial strain that those in domestically violent environments cannot afford to get away from. Last year, Ms. Washington joined with The Allstate Foundation Purple Purse and fashion designers to create a purple handbag representing women’s financial independence and to raise awareness for women’s violence.

Washington says, “Abuse is hard to talk about, so we thought a purse is a beautiful object that can get the conversation started…it is a symbol of a woman’s financial domain.”

Elie Saab’s Couture show for Fall 2015 is to die for. Shimmering champagne and intricate bronze shades flooded the runway with these exquisite gowns from the Lebanese designer. The metallic details and miles of draping recall the ideals of centuries of women’s fashion, clinging to the idea that the women’s garment should be stunning, flowing, and romantic. Each piece radiates a goddess-like quality elevating Saab as king of detail and poise. Why We Love Pastel Hair


The stigma that those with unnatural hair color are ultra rebellious and scary has run away, and in come the cream puffs and sweet hearts with their pastel hair, proving you don’t have to be a punk to have colored hair. Can we hear a Hilary Duff or Julianna Hough anyone? People have even started calling it mermaid hair, and who doesn’t love mermaids!? Which is why we are devoting an entire post to pastel hair. When people ask if they could pull it off, we say do it! Why not? Hair is as fickle as a wardrobe change, and we like it that way. Where do we begin with Mindy Kaling? We could tell you she is one of the funniest women alive because she has written and stared in award-winning comedy television. We could tell you she is smart because she graduated from Dartmouth, has written two books, and comes from doctor parents. We could tell you she is an influential feminist because she changes beauty and body standards, writes herself as an imperfect female protagonist, and is one of the first Asian-American women to simultaneously write, star in, and produce her own television shows. We could tell you that she is considered one of the most charitable celebrities in Hollywood because on her birthday she asked for her fans favorite charities so she could donate to them…Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 3.03.41 PMBut what it comes down to, is that Mindy Kaling is a woman we admire, and a celebrity who advocates for many amazing causes.

In her book “Is Everyone Hanging Out With Me,” she tells her young readers to do their homework! She says to work hard in school and do homework even before they watch her show. Homework over TV?! You’ve seen her on What Not to Wear, and now her new show Love, Lust, or Run, and the truth is we’ve always loved that strong, sassy woman with phenomenal style. However, even she will admit that she isn’t the same woman she was on What Not to Wear. There is something softer and more open about her now, and we still love it which is why she is the newest feature in the Women We Love series!TLC

Stacy isn’t just an evolving style maven either, another reason we love her is because she is one tough cookie who has dealt with her fair share of issues. As always, the Met Gala styles are stunning, but this year, there was a HUGE trend among attendees that we’ve seen all over the media–the oh-so-fabulous headpiece! These little babies flooded the red carpet, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Why you ask? Because if there is one thing we love here at Untamed Petals, it is a gorgeous headpiece!

Summer 2015 Movies to Read First

Summer is almost upon us and so is the time to read at the beach and hit those summer blockbuster movies! This summer there are plenty of movies that are based on books. So if you want to beat everyone to the punch and claim the “book was better,” here are some great adaptations to check out before you watch on the big screen.

Far From the Madding Crowd (May 1st) This period film featuring the beautiful Carey Mulligan, revolves around a young lady who enchants multiple men around the same time and has to choose one to marry in 1800s rural England. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (June 12th) Here is a winner of two Sundance awards including the Sundance Grand Jury Prize.
